Product Owner — Job Description

Role summary
The Product Owner (PO) owns the product backlog and maximizes product value by translating customer and business needs into clear, prioritized user stories for delivery teams. The PO partners closely with stakeholders, UX, engineering, and data to define outcomes, make trade-offs, and ensure the team builds the right thing at the right time.

Key responsibilities

• Define and communicate product vision, goals, and measurable outcomes (OKRs/KPIs).

• Own, create, and continuously refine the product backlog; ensure items are clearly written and “ready.”

• Translate strategy and customer needs into user stories with acceptance criteria; break down epics into deliverable increments.

• Prioritize work using value, risk, effort, and dependencies; make scope decisions and trade-offs quickly.

• Lead backlog grooming/refinement sessions; align with engineering on feasibility and sequencing.

• Collaborate with UX on discovery, research insights, prototypes, and usability feedback loops.

• Represent stakeholders and end users; align cross-functional partners (business, legal, compliance, operations, etc.).

• Support sprint planning by clarifying requirements and sprint goals; answer team questions promptly.

• Review and accept completed work against acceptance criteria; ensure quality and value delivery.

• Use data and experimentation (A/B tests where applicable) to assess performance and guide iteration.
